Prior to late 2021 and early 2022, most of the research works done on the effects of Covid-19 on population and reproductive health focused on the likely association between Covid and health outcomes. This was because it was too early to measure actual impacts due to a dearth of primary data and insufficient secondary data. A few studies even presented results from a very small sample with serious consequences for scientific generalization. A conference, with the theme ‘Population and Reproductive Health Dynamics under Covid-19 in Sub-Saharan Africa’, was, thus, hosted by this team in March 2022 to bring researchers, policy makers and the general public interested in population health issues in Africa to share the findings of their empirical and literature research on the actual, rather than potential, impacts of Covid on population health. Authors of selected presentations at the conference were invited to submit their full manuscripts. These submissions form the fulcrum of this proposed special issue.
